From the Principal's Desk
Sacred Heart Convent, situated in the heart of the Southern shores of Sri Lanka, has been a home for thousands of learned women for more than twelve decades now and has reached excellence in numerous aspects growing into an institute of remarkable versatility.
While we help our students to reach their aspirations within the curricular framework of the National Education Policy of Sri Lanka in both Sinhala and English mediums of instruction, we encourage them to become smarter in both physical and psychological aspects.
The students of our school are exposed to various extra and co-curricular activities ranging from sports to artistry and we take extra concern to help students grow spiritually simultaneously, and thus, become learned individuals with essence of humanity in the deepest of their hearts.
I feel myself unceasingly blessed to have been in a position to guide students along with teachers, parents, past pupils and well-wishers to discover the best of themselves.

A Legacy of Excellence Since 1896
Sacred Heart Convent, Galle is among the prestigious girls' schools in Southern Sri Lanka, pioneering women's education even before the advent of free education.
Our Story
Founded on November 30, 1896, by the Sisters of Charity from Belgium, Sacred Heart Convent began its journey on the hallowed precincts of Mount Calvary in Galle. The school was established to provide European education for young girls in the Southern Province.
What started with just 11 girls on the first day has grown into a flourishing institution with over 2,200 students. The first girl enrolled, Mabel Abeysundera, marked the beginning of a legacy that would span more than 12 decades.
Under the stewardship of foreign missionaries until 1978, the school was then handed over to the state. Today, Sacred Heart Convent stands as a fully-fledged government school, maintaining the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and moral rectitude while fulfilling national education goals.
